The Album on Tour

“Perhaps it is our cultural attitudes to modern music that have cast it as something to be consumed. The complacency of no holds barred access and the saturation wrought by technology’s erosion of challenges” - Cilvaringz & The RZA

10 years ago a radical vision was cast, a piece of recorded music treated as fine art. Displayed in museums and institutions around the world. Instead of being on demand and available for streaming the Wu-Tang clan created a single copy of an album that only could be heard by the owner.

“We're making a single-sale collector's item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king."

Their plan worked, creating the most expensive and famous piece of music ever recorded. However, the public cost was high, depriving millions from the ability to enjoy the art.

In 2024 Pleasr initiated a campaign to bring the music to the people and fulfill the vision of Wu-Tang. Music valued and treated like art but available to more than one person.

This campaign is happening around the world in digital and physical spaces. It began on June 7th where it all started, in New York City at the very same place Wu-Tang took their 1996 album photos, the Angel Orensanz Foundation. For three days a free event took place where anyone could come and hear the music the way Wu-Tang intended it – displayed as a work of art.

These photos were taken at the event commemorating the moment and the launch of the campaign. You can mint these photos for the next 7 days. Each mint advances the album release date by 3 minutes 50 seconds and adds 920 points to your Wu Score. Check your score at thealbum.com.
